About the South African Premier Soccer League

The South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), also known as the DStv Premiership due to sponsorship reasons, is the top-tier professional football league in South Africa. Founded in 1996, the league has grown to become one of the most competitive and watched football competitions on the African continent. The PSL consists of 16 teams that compete annually from August to May, playing a total of 30 matches each in a round-robin format.

The league is renowned for its passionate fan base, with clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns boasting some of the largest followings in African football. The PSL has also served as a breeding ground for talent, producing players who have gone on to compete in top European leagues.

2022/23 Season: Once again, Mamelodi Sundowns claimed the championship with 67 points, with SuperSport United finishing as runners-up with 56 points. Cape Town City secured third place with 50 points. Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns was the league's top scorer with 17 goals.

2021/22 Season: Mamelodi Sundowns dominated the season, winning the title with 67 points. Royal AM finished second with 51 points, while Cape Town City took third with 49 points. This season marked Sundowns' fifth consecutive league title, cementing their status as South Africa's football powerhouse.
